Our Commitments
TO PRESERVE BIODIVERSITY
Our Champagne owes its prestige to our unique terroir. Each sip not only carries the exquisite taste of Gremillet champagne but also a touch of the richness of the Champagne soil. This is why, every day, we are committed to protecting and strengthening this natural heritage.
TO SRENGTHEN BIODIVERSITY
- Hedge Planting: we are reintroducing hedges in our plots to create favorable habitats for local wildlife.
- 600 truffle trees : Planned for 2024-2025, this plantation will help absorb CO₂..
- Beekeeping : Since 2020, our 9 beehives have been bringing life and pollination.
PROTECT THE SOIL
- Cover cropping in the vineyard for soil health
Kezako ?
Vineyard cover cropping involves maintaining and managing a natural or sown vegetative cover between the rows. It serves as an important source of organic matter for the soil’s biological life, enriching it with essential compounds for the vines (phosphorus, various nutrients, nitrogen compounds). We practice cover cropping on every other row.
REDUCE OUR CARBON EMISSIONS
Champagne Gremillet takes action across its entire value chain to mitigate the climate impact of its activities. With our first carbon assessment conducted in 2023 following the Ademe methodology, we measure and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the vineyard to the cellar, aiming to create a more sustainable cuvée.
ECO-EFFICIENT TRANSPORT
Transport is one of the main sources of GHG emissions, and Champagne Gremillet places great importance on reducing it.
- Order Consolidation :we optimize our deliveries to reduce the number of trips.
- Zero Air Transport:100% of our shipments are conducted by sea (1/3) and land (2/3), thereby avoiding air transport.
ADOPT SUSTAINABLE VITICULTURE
We are evolving our agricultural practices to address the challenges of climate change and to protect our terroirs and vines.
DUAL CERTIFICATION
ORGANIC CUVEE
Among the very first Champagne winemakers to embark on the organic journey, Champagne Gremillet has been producing organic champagne under the Ecocert label since 2011.
ETHICAL PACKAGING
The packaging of our champagne plays an essential role in our commitment to responsibility. From material selection to sourcing, we prioritize environmentally friendly solutions.
LOCAL SOURCING
- 100% of our packaging is sourced from France, or from Europe when necessary. We prioritize local sourcing to minimize our carbon footprint.
CONTROLLED SOURCING
- Natural Cork:our corks are exclusively made from natural cork and are FSC-certified (no synthetic materials).
- Packaging Optimization:in collaboration with our supplier, we are reducing the weight of our cartons, thereby lowering the environmental impact associated with their transport and production.
PROMOTE A SECOND LIFE
Because one person’s waste can become another’s resource, we embrace a circular production approach and work to give products a second life.
- Cardboard Press:we compact our non-reusable packaging so it can be recycled and given a new life!
- Valorization of Grape Pomace:the remnants of our grapes (seeds, skins, stems, juice) are transformed into natural preservatives and alcohols, then into compost and fertilizers.
- Collection and Recycling of Sticker Label Backings in Partnership with Printers.
- Print Optimization:centralization and double-sided printing for responsible paper management.
- Cork Collection:setting up cork collectors in collaboration with local associations.
MANAGE SUSTAINABLY
Because the preservation of our resources is essential, we take action to reduce and control our consumption.
A REDUCTION IN OUR ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION
- Photovoltaic:Installation of over 500 m² of photovoltaic solar panels on the mechanical shed and 700 m² on the storage cellar. This equates to nearly 1,800 tons of CO₂ saved over 20 years.
- 100% LED Lighting
CONTROLLED WATER CONSUMPTION
- Descaling of tanks with steam without chemicals
- Rainwater Harvesters:we wash our tractors with harvested water—no waste!
& EQUITABLY
- Parity :at the helm of our house, three men and three women from the Gremillet family work hand in hand to offer you an exceptional champagne.
